Working With CLD Populations: An Interactive Student Experience

Thursday, 2:30pm to 4:00pm
Oceanport
Session 21
According to the 2013 census, almost half of New Jersey residents are from culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds and 29.6%, ages five and older, speak a language other than English at home. Many of these individuals will be referred for speech-language services in the school setting. Many graduate and newly graduated speech-language practitioners do not always receive relevant and adequate multicultural focus in their coursework to appropriately assess and treat CLD populations. The purpose of this session interaction is to introduce students to current issues in multiculturalism in an engaging and interactive way to foster interest and promote learning.
