Effective Early Intervention for Hearing Loss: The Clock is Ticking

Thursday, 8:00am to 10:00am
Shrewsbury
Session 4
Research has proven that early identification of hearing loss, followed by amplification by age six months, and early intervention by knowledgeable providers results in the children's attaining language skills comparable to their hearing peers by age five. Advances in technology provide opportunities for these babies to have access to auditory information through various hearing devices including cochlear implants during the first years of life allowing for development of neural pathways during the critical period for language and speech acquisition, a unique window of opportunity. It is the goal of this presentation to ensure that children with hearing loss receive the care they need through the early intervention process.
