Session 9
Acquired and traumatic brain injuries may result in speech and language disorders including aphasia, dysarthria and apraxia of speech. Deficits range from mild to severe and can significantly impact an individual's ability to communicate. For adults with speech and language disorders, skilled speech therapy is crucial to improve their functional independence. This presentation aims to outline five cases of adult speech therapy in an outpatient rehabilitation setting in order to provide clinicians with new resources for intervention. Each client's diagnosis, deficits and individualized treatment plan will be reviewed and participants will be provided with sample goals and therapeutic objectives to treat aphasia, dysarthria and apraxia of speech. Supporting research will be applied to treatments highlighted within each case in order to facilitate evidence-based support in clinical practice.
