Viewing the Common Core State Standards From a Language Lens - Part 2

Saturday, 2:30pm to 5:30pm
Rooms 62/63/64
Session 48
For the first time in history, our educational system is moving to a national standard for education, learning and achievement. The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) have been adopted by 43 states, the District of Columbia, and four territories and aim to standardize student preparation for later success in college, careers and the workforce. With this launch underway, educators of all types are finding it necessary to not only learn about the CCSS, but how to implement them in their daily instruction and intervention. The CCSS span all K-12 grades, and all Tiers of the Response to Intervention (RTI) framework. Fundamentally, the CCSS specifically promotes the shared responsibility for language and literacy across disciplines, across educators and across modalities (listening, speaking, reading and writing). It is crucial that speech-language pathologists not only know of the CCSS, but understand how to effectively implement and collaborate around them.
