Traumatic brain injury (TBI) represents a chronic health condition in which cognitive impairments creates challenges across the life span. A variety of approaches for treating cognitive impairments are available. Sohlberg (2013) describes six approaches to cognitive rehabilitation that may be employed when working with clients with TBI. This presentation will discuss the six approaches to cognitive rehabilitation, describe a coaching approach to rehabilitation in which to apply these approaches and provide examples of specific techniques and strategies for application of the six approaches to areas of cognition and communication commonly treated after TBI.
