This systematic review examined research on the perceived quality of life of individuals with dysphagia. An electronic database search yielded 1,033 participants with dysphagia across seven studies. Each of the studies in the review highlighted the social and emotional effects of dysphagia on individuals. This presentation will discuss the findings from this systematic review and present a case study about the social and emotional experiences of a man diagnosed with dysphagia and his caregivers. This case study will help to underscore the need to incorporate education and counseling to improve the quality of life of individuals with dysphagia and their familial caregivers.
