This poster will describe how Vocal Cord Dysfunction (VCD) and asthma affect quality of life in school-aged children. The participants, 30 school-aged children, ages five to 18, with the diagnosis of VCD or asthma were recruited to participate in a written survey. The participants were recruited through the offices of pulmonologists or otorhinolaryngologists in the Southeast Missouri and Central Illinois regions. The participants were to complete a written questionnaire regarding VCD and asthma symptoms and how the disorders affect quality of life while at their physician's office. The data collection is in progress, and the complied data will be subjected to content analysis in order to create a clinical pathway that will help understand how symptoms of asthma and VCD impact quality of life domains. This study will benefit the participants, school-aged children, by enhancing their awareness of the symptoms of VCD and asthma and how they affect their quality of life. The study will also help the physicians and speech-language pathologists understand the relationship between clients' perspectives of symptoms pertaining to VCD and asthma, and quality of life.
