Friday, 3:00pm to 4:30pm
Parasol II
Session 17
Assistive technology for cognition (ATC) is a rapidly emerging component of cognitive rehabilitation that has been described as one of the most exciting new areas in cognitive rehabilitation. There has been a proliferation of both hardware and software applications (apps) to support ATC. However, ATC is as much about process as it is about product. A needs assessment and thorough understanding of instructional methodologies are critical components to assure that the appropriate device and apps are selected for the client and that training is sufficient for long-term generalization and maintenance of ATC strategies. This presentation will focus on a review of the evidence for ATC, identification of considerations necessary for a needs assessment, app selection that focuses on matching app features to client needs and instructional methodologies appropriate for training clients in ATC.
