Over the past 60 years, the percentage of women in the workforce has increased, along with the numbers of children who receive non-parental care. As a result, the question of whether daycare is beneficial or detrimental to language development in children has gained importance. This systematic review examines whether daycare or maternal care yields more advanced language development in children from ages birth to three. Four studies met the selection criteria of the review. The results indicated that children who attended daycare had marginally more advanced language development and higher quality adult-child interactions than maternal care.
