Given the interdisciplinary history of dysphagia care, mutual respect and cooperation between disciplines and professions is an ongoing necessity. The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions and opinions held by radiologists toward SLP's regarding a SLP's professionalism, expertise, competence and scope of practice. Specifically, this study sought out the comments and perceptions of radiologists who participate in videofluroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), also referred to as modified barium swallow studies (MBSS). The survey determined patterns of concern and overall perceptions held by radiologists, in regard to SLP's, for the purpose of elucidating areas of strength and potential growth. It also gathered information regarding practice patterns of SLP's, as viewed by radiologists, in assessing the esophageal stage of the swallow.
