An auditory brainstem implant is an assistive listening device similar to a cochlear implant that can be of use for patients who do not benefit from or qualify for cochlear implantation. This presentation explains how auditory brainstem implants work, compares the device to cochlear implants and reports the history, benefits and complications of auditory brainstem implants. In addition, the presentation reviews current use of auditory brainstem implants in pediatrics in the United States.
