Pragmatics, or social skills, is one of the many areas that are impaired in children with autism. Research has shown that through intervention improvements are successful. The systematic review is aimed at finding the most effective intervention(s) for the different areas of pragmatics including: eye contact, social skills, social engagement, joint/visual attention and social emotional functioning. The researchers accomplished this by conducting a systematic review that included articles that examined aspects including children with autism and the social based interventions and the results. A conclusive electronic and hand search was done to find the seven articles used in the review that dated between the years of 2010 and 2013; inclusion and exclusion criteria were followed to find these articles. It was seen that the interventions used in the articles showed an overall improvement in the previously stated areas of pragmatics. The purpose of this poster is to provide an overview of the most effective interventions found for this area of communication for individuals with autism. Further research should be focused on specific areas of pragmatics and how they can be improved through specific intervention(s).
