Keeping Poverty and Trauma in Mind While Providing Effective Speech Therapy, Part 2

Friday, 9:45am to 11:15am
Room 212-217
Session 58
Children who are being raised in poverty or who have been exposed to trauma, demonstrate proven differences in brain development. This has a direct impact on their emotional, social and academic success in schools. This session will discuss the effects of poverty and trauma on brain development and ways to identify the children on your caseload that have been impacted. While there is no perfect answer to eliminate the challenges faced daily by disadvantaged and traumatized children, we can utilize effective strategies to help these students succeed within therapy, in their schools and communities.
