Clinical Service Provisions for People Who Don't Want Clinical Services

Thursday, 12:45pm to 1:45pm
Room L4-L5
Session 28
This session will discuss the 25 million American adults with untreated hearing loss and what we can do as audiologists to direct them into the hearing health care system. The transtheoretical model and how it relates to health behavior change will be described. Alternatives to traditional audiologic services will be considered for people with hearing impairment who are not ready to pursue professional services. Particular emphasis will be placed on internet-based audiology and the acceptance of internet-based programs among older adults with hearing impairment. The future of internet-based audiology will be discussed and how it may serve as an intermediary step for directing people into the hearing health care system.
