Clinical Decision-Making of Speech-Language Pathologists Working in Rural School Settings

Thursday, 5:15pm to 6:15pm
Exhibit Hall 1AB
Poster 02
This poster session will provide results from a recent survey study of speech-language pathologists (SLPs) working in rural school settings. The survey extended the findings of Brandel and Loeb's (2011) investigation of the factors school-based SLPs take into consideration when making decisions about the frequency, intensity and service delivery model for children receiving speech and language intervention. More specifically, the survey examined similarities and differences of the clinical decision-making process and practice patterns of SLPs employed in rural and urban school settings and investigated SLPs perspectives of constraints to utilization of varied service delivery models (e.g, 3:1 model, block scheduling, drill bursts).
