The 2014 Ice Bucket Challenge has raised more than $110 million dollars (and counting) for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research. This amazing event has elevated the public's awareness of the degenerative disease, which will likely lead to higher expectations of clinical care. This timely session will provide a brief overview of the neurological bases of ALS and outline basic knowledge that every speech-language pathologist needs to know to conduct a comprehensive AAC evaluation for people with ALS. Attendees will be armed with information and tools they can immediately apply in their day-to-day clinical practice.
